Robots march at All-American Show
Vintage robots priced from hundreds to thousands of dollars will be sounding off at the upcoming All-American Collector’s Show slated for January 17th and 18th at the Glendale Civic Auditorium. At the last All-American Show, a deadstock 1960s Robert the Robot made his first march for $350 in the space of vintage advertising specialist Bob Porter. Not to be confused with Robby the Robot from the movie, “Forbidden Planet,” the new-in-box robot was fully poseable. ”I just took it out of the box,” said Porter. “It had never been assembled or played with.” Robert, obviously a more formal robot, was manufactured by Ideal in the 1960s. The remote control toy that both lit up and talked could also be posed and steered. Several robots will most likely be walking the length of dealer Justin Pinchot’s space. He is a specialist in space toys, from ray guns to robots. He is also a fan of automatons and boasts one of the largest collections of Beringer Motion Displays that were once rented to jewelry stores for their front windows. The All-American Show comes in the wake of one of the largest science fiction and robot auctions ever.
