Alcova Students Get Sneak Peek at ‘Titanic’ Exhibit – Dacula, GA Patch
Alcova Students Get Sneak Peek at ‘Titanic’ Exhibit – Dacula, GA Patch: “Fifth grade students at Alcova Elementary had the opportunity to get a sneak peek at the new “Titanic: The Artifacts Exhibition” scheduled to open April 6 at Atlantic Station.
The new exhibit features 212 artifacts from the Titanic, including 100 that have never been previously displayed. The items are part of a collection of 5,500 artifacts recovered from the shipwreck over the course of eight recovery expeditions.
The exhibit is presented by RMS Titanic, Inc., the exclusive steward of the Titanic. The exhibit coincides with the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic. The ship, carrying 2,228 passengers and crew, sank on April 15, 1912 after striking an iceberg in the North Atlantic. Over 1,500 people died.”

Black Dahlia
Robert Sommers thinks it just might be: so do his readers
14 pieces of art by the elusive Paul de Gaston
Robert Sommers has become a cyber sleuth after two sisters wandered into his gallery with a sheath of prints signed by Paul de Gaston. He took the 14 etchings on consignment and has been involved in a big whodunnit since then. With the help of his loyal 800 daily blog followers he has been researching the elusive artist and what he has uncovered is not only confusing, it is disturbing. It is quite possible that the artist was involved in the unsolved murder of The Black Dahlia.
The images he now has in Blue Heron Gallery are a combination of dry point etchings and aquatints. Sommers was set up at the Antiques, Objects & Art Show and will also be selling at the April Hillsborough Show. He is a specialist in fine art so he was very enthusiastic about the images that were brought into his Fallbrook store. Sommers soon discovered that there was practically no information on this artist but what he did find about Paul De Gaston suggested that the name applied to a very nefarious character.
The most baffling part of the De Gaston mystery is that Sommers is uncertain as to whether there are one or two men with the name Paul de Gaston: research suggests there was a Paul Robert de Gaston and a Paul Percy de Gaston, but he believes they may both be the same man, and thus the man who completed the artwork in his Fallbrook gallery.
“They both used multiple names and had multiple wives and had pretty sordid histories,” said Sommers. “Paul Robert de Gaston was on the FBI’s most wanted list as a Nazi sympathizer.”
He was thrown into a World War II internment camp on the West Coast where he was known to have painted. According to Sommers, he was also an unlicensed abortionist.
“He was state’s witness in the Black Dahlia murder trial,” said Sommers. “He is still suspect #17 in the case.” They found his name and number in Elizabeth Shore’s (Black Dahlia’s) address book, and there were other things linking him to the murder.
“I am still getting a lot of information,” said Sommers. Several of the etchings are early views of China and one of the Paul de Gaston’s was born in China.
“Some things I am discovering apply to each man and some to both,” he said. Could it be that they are the same man? They were both married to a woman named Violet, they both had a child named Gloria…the coincidences are so great that they may be the same person.”
This article only scratches the surface of the Sommer’s cyber sleuth saga. Those interested in reading about the Paul de Gaston/Black Dahlia saga as it unfolds, can visit Sommers blog: Blue HeronBlast.com

Smallville Season 11: Superman Returns – Comics Feature at IGN
A few weeks back, DC Comics pleased a clamoring fanbase of Smallville fans when they announced that they’d be offering a new comic book series called Smallville Season 11, written by show veteran Bryan Q. Miller and drawn by his Batgirl cohort Pere Perez. Smallville Season 11 will debut in weekly digital installments on April 13, available from Comixology for only .99 cents each. For fans that still prefer their comics in print, these digital chapters will be collected into a monthly print issue, the first of which goes on sale in May. It’s worth mentioning that while new comics typically come out on Wednesday, the digital chapters of Smallville Season 11 will be releasing on Fridays, keeping the show’s time slot alive. This past weekend at WonderCon I had a chance to catch up with Miller and get some dirt on his plans for the returning Smallville cast, including potential guest stars, new villains, and the continuing threads of the series.
Twain Quotes Inspire Steampunk Artists
Joey Marsocci, aka Dr. Grymm, invited 20 steampunk artists from around the world to participate in the “Steampunk Bizarre” exhibit at the Mark Twain House & Museum. Each was allowed to submit six already-completed artworks. In addition, Marsocci issued a “Twain challenge”: Each artist was given a different quote from a Mark Twain work, with the task to create a steampunk artwork that illustrates that quote. Attend the Twain show to see what artists did with these ideas. Source: Hartford Courant

The most sought-after item in the collection was her pair of famed Luxor No.6 flying goggles. Worn by Earhart when she experienced her first crash in July 1921 while learning to fly with Neta Snook, the goggles still evidenced a cracked lens. The bidding opened at $10,000 and escalated to a final sales price of $17,775.
Also featured in the collection were 20 never-seen-before unpublished gelatin silver prints that were sold individually. The two photos in particular which captured the hearts of collectors were a silver gelatin print of Earhart, signed and inscribed by her and dated 1937. The photo snapped for $2,100. The second photo that tripled its high estimate was another photo of Earhart, signed and inscribed “To my friends of the radio audience.”
This image sold for $3,200.
